The Hitachi Resource Manager™ utility package provides essential functions for the management of individual Hitachi storage systems. It also contains an advanced set of software tools for third-party application integration and optimization. Available in both modular and enterprise configurations, it is required to enable the full feature set offered by Hitachi storage systems.
Resource Manager utility package provides a Web-accessible graphical management interface and, on modular systems, it includes a command line interface (CLI) to allow easy management of Hitachi storage. It is used to map security levels for SAN ports and virtual ports, for inter-array path mapping and RAID-level configurations, for logical unit number (LUN) expansion and for Data Retention Utility LUN configurations, for example, WORM (write once, read many) configuration. It also includes performance management and troubleshooting capabilities for the storage system.
Depending on the storage system being managed, Resource Manager utility package supports and configures storage for both mainframe and open systems and includes tools to enhance third-party application integration including: simple network management protocol (SNMP) agents and management information bases (MIBs) for Hitachi storage systems, Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) support for Microsoft Exchange, and network data management protocol (NDMP) support.
Resource Manager Utility Package for Modular Storage Systems
Storage Navigator for Hitachi Adaptable Modular Storage and Workgroup Modular Storage obtain system configuration and status information and send user-requested commands to the storage systems. Storage Navigator is also the integrated interface for all other Resource Manager components. With included Java agents, Storage Navigator can be run from most browsers.
LUN management software streamlines configuration management processes by enabling customers to define, configure, add, delete, expand, revise and reassign LUNs to specific paths without having to re-boot your storage system.
Storage area network (SAN) security software helps ensure security in open systems storage area networking environments through restricted server access.
Cache residency management allows users to "lock" and "unlock" data into cache in real time to optimize access to your most frequently accessed data.
Cache partitioning capability (supported on Adaptable Modular Storage and Workgroup Modular Storage only) allows partitioning of the cache by application to improve performance.
SNMP Agent support includes Hitachi specific MIBs and enables SNMP-based reporting on status and alerts for Hitachi storage systems.
Resource Manager Utility Package for Enterprise Storage Systems
Storage Navigator obtains system configuration and status information and sends user-requested commands to the Hitachi Universal Storage Platform and Network Storage Controller as well as Hitachi Lightning 9900™ V Series enterprise storage systems. It also is the integrated interface for all other Resource Manager components. With included Java agents it can be run from most browsers.
LUN Manager software streamlines configuration management processes by enabling customers to define, configure, add, delete, revise and reassign LUNs to specific paths without having to re-boot your system. Because LUN Manager can assign multiple paths to a single LUN, customers gain the necessary infrastructure to support alternative path failover, path load balancing and clustered systems.
Logical Unit Size Expansion allows LUN expansion by creating virtual expandable LUs out of groups of physical ones.
Virtual Logical Volume Image/Logical Unit Number (LVI/LUN) Manager software optimizes storage system capacity utilization by allowing users to create custom sized logical volumes of information. Hitachi VLVI Manager improves performance by reducing logical device contention and operating system queuing. It enables better utilization of the physical capacity of the array and also boosts remote copy performance by eliminating the need to copy large volumes of information that are only partially used.
Customized Volume Size and Open Customized Volume Size are allow the creation of small, high-performance LUNs in, respectively, mainframe and open system environments.
SANtinel™ port security software option helps ensure security in open SAN environments through restricted server access. Customers can deny access to unauthorized users and safeguard mission-critical information.
Hitachi SAN Security software performs the same function as SANtinel, but for mainframe environments.

Data Retention Utility for Open Systems and IBM® z/OS® provides virtual WORM (write once, read many) on Hitachi disk storage systems in open systems and mainframe environments. With the Data Retention Utility, customers can lock down archived data, making it non-erasable and non-rewritable for prescribed periods, facilitating compliance with governmental or industry regulations.
Volume Shredder feature enables the volume shredding engine in the Universal Storage Platform and Network Storage Controller microcode for use by Resource Manager software and other products such as Hitachi Tiered Storage Manager software.
Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) hardware provider supports direct storage system-based point-in-time copies for Microsoft VSS enabled applications using Hitachi In-System Replication bundle or Hitachi Remote Replication software. The benefit is that the copy takes place inside the storage system and data is not required to move through the server or SAN. This frees up valuable server cache and I/O resources and allows the customer's application environment to continue operating without performance impact.

NDMP agents add support to Hitachi storage systems for the open standard NDMP for enterprise-wide backup of heterogeneous network-attached storage.
